🌈 Rainbow Experiments 🌈

20th Feb 2026

Primary 3 and 4 had fun with some rainbow experiments in line with their weather topic. They carried out 3 different experiments all with the goal of making their own rainbows! The 3 experiments were:

🌈 Magic Milk Rainbow

First, we poured some milk into a shallow plate. Then we carefully added drops of a variety of different food colouring. Next, we dipped a cotton bud into washing-up liquid and gently touched it onto the milk. Suddenly, the colours began to move and swirl around the plate like a rainbow explosion!

🌈 Skittles Rainbow

We placed Skittles in a circle around the edge of a white plate. Next, we carefully poured warm water into the middle of the plate until it touched the sweets. After a few minutes, we saw the colours spread from the Skittles towards the centre, creating a bright rainbow pattern.

🌈 Grow a Rainbow (Paper Towel Experiment)

First, we coloured each end of a strip of paper towel using felt tips in rainbow colours. Then we placed each end of the paper towel into separate cups of water, making sure the middle stayed dry. After waiting, we watched as the water travelled up the paper towel and carried the colours with it. The colours slowly moved towards the centre and met in the middle to create a full rainbow.
